The Zambia Consumer
Association (ZACA) has called for a complete overhaul of the Food Reserve
Agency (FRA).
ZACA Executive Director
Muyunda Ililonga says an overhaul of the institution is needed in order to seal
loop holes, stop maize thefts and ensure transparency in its operations
especially during the maize marketing seasons.
Mr. Ililonga’s comment
comes in the wake of a crackdown on the Food Reserve Agency (FRA)
maize thefts.
Joint investigative wings of
government recently seized 10 vehicles worth millions of Kwacha and arrested
three men and a lady in connection with the FRA maize fraud.
The three men and a lady are
being investigated for having received payments from different FRA depots for
maize which they never supplied.
