Consumers demand complete overhaul of ZESCO

Zambia Consumer Association ZACA has called for a complete overhaul of Zambia’s power utility company Zesco.
ZACA Executive Director Muyunda Ililonga says the government needs to re-organize Zesco to ensure that it supplies power to customers without interruptions.
Mr. Ililonga says the perpetual load shedding is a clear indication that Zesco has failed to supply power to customers.
He says load shedding has raised the cost of living among Zambians as they are now forced to use charcoal or diesel for their day to day activities.
Zesco is warning of increased load shedding following the shut down of generator number one at Kafue Gorge Power Station.
The power utility says the generator has been shut down to facilitate repair of punctured guide bearing oil coolers.
