Import ban on chicken disappoint ZACA.

The Zambia Consumer Association (ZACA) has expressed disappointment with government's decision to ban the importation of Chicken.

In an interview with Qfm, ZACA Executive Director Muyunda Ililonga says the move by government will have adverse effects on competition in the industry which will have eventual negative effects on consumers.

Mr. Ililonga further explains that government's move is a clear indication that they have bowed down to cartels stating that this will jeopardize the growth of the industry.

He says consumers must be allowed to choose from a variety of chicken brands and that chicken importation is cardinal if the commodity is in short supply on the local market.

Mr. Ililonga has since urged government to convene a stakeholders meeting aimed at ironing out issues surrounding Chicken importations.

He has also appealed to the Zambia National Farmers Union not to allow to be used to engage in cartels and uncompetitive behavior.
